In 2017, Woolworths helped Australia’s largest hunger relief organisation, Foodbank, provide more than 2 million meals for vulnerable families in need across the country.
Woolworths has partnered with Foodbank for more than 16 years and on average, donates more than 1 million kilograms of fresh, ambient and household products yearly to help the organisation fight hunger in Australia.
Along with providing regular food and grocery donations, supporting FoodBank marketing campaigns and working together to tackle Australia’s $20 billion food waste problem, Woolworths also facilitates introductions and support from our suppliers, right back to the farm gate, to ensure Foodbank has key staple items in their warehouses all year round.
Woolworths Head of Sustainability Adrian Cullen said "Woolworths is very proud of our partnership with FoodBank. Support comes from right across our business, and this is what helps us support Foodbank to provide 65% of all food relief across Australia."
The 2017 Foodbank Hunger Report found that in the last 12 months, 3.6 million Australians, or 15% of the population, have experienced uncertainty about where their next meal is coming from. Woolworths’ ongoing commitment to Foodbank is one way to ensure food waste is reduced right across the supply chain while also ensuring that vulnerable Australians do not go without food and groceries when forced to make tough choices about where to spend their money.
